Poems of Light

homeWhat the Fairytales don't tell you
Do you remember?
The Dream Eternal
The Dream EternalThe couple stand close
'neath the old cherry tree
so enwrapped in each other
that for them there IS no world -
just he, she, and they...
theirs is a young love
precious and rare
the romantic dream
of a thousand dreamers
as they wait for the One
who will light the flame of desire
within their souls -
the perfect lover
their soul's partner
who will nurture the seed
of passion
and bring it to flower,
blossoming in a thousand hues
For them, love is perfect,
invincible
unbreakable
and they are convinced
it will last forever.
Should you be the one
to warn them
that their dreams may be in vain?
Do they truly need to know
that the flower of their love
is no full-flowering rose
but a tiny lobelia
clinging precariously to existence
in a crack in the rock?
Will it serve any purpose
to awaken them to the truth
and the empty commitment
love often becomes?
You could make that difference...
with one word
you could shatter
their dreams and their hopes
but why should you?
Leave the dreamers to their dream
Whose to say
that they do not have the right of it?
All love is perfect
when first it blooms
and lobelias
are beautiful too...What the Fairytales don't tell youOnce upon a time
in a land far away,
a fairytale princess
lived in a fairy castle gayShe had a fairytale marriage
and a fairytale life
She was a fairytale princess
and a fairytale wifeHer household ran like clockwork
she was always clean and neat
her complexion never pimpled
and her temper always sweetHer house was ever spotless
her every whim was a command
She didn't need to raise her voice
She had anything, on demand. She had lots of pets to play with
She had servants by the score
She had embroidery and needlework
But she wanted something more...Her fairytale marriage
gave her little fairytale joy
She wanted someone to share her life
a little girl and boy...For her marriage bed was barren
And her womb lay cold and still
The fairytales don't tell you what to do
once you're married... and they never will. There are no fairytale sex manuals
no instruction books handed out
no help handy for the clueless
No-one to tell what it's all about...So that fairytale husband
for the sake of his fairytale wife
went to seek a new advisor
with a little more experience at life...He came back at the stroke of midnight
with a cloaked figure in tow
He gathered up the Princess
and told her they had to goTo the topmost tower in secrecy
under cover of the night
where the mysterious stranger
would help them in their plightWhat they did is veiled in secrecy
the stranger left before morn
But I can tell you this one thing -
nine months later, a babe was born.Do you remember?Do you remember
when the world was full of wonder
and magic ruled the earth?Do you remember
when the whisper of wind in the branches
breathed fairy voices in your ear?Do you remember
how the shadows on the wall
moved and danced in the moonlight
beckoning you to Wonderland?Do you remember
when the world was full of possibilities
you only had to step out your door
to step into Adventure?Do you remember being free
to believe in fairies?Do you remember the magic?
And do you remember
when you woke up one morning
and it was gone? The world was somehow smaller
and emptier
and colder...
no fairies, no elves
no enchanted kingdoms...
just cold hard reality
and the 'adult' world.Well,
let me tell you something...We may grow old and weary
our minds may forget the key
to unlock the door to Wonder
but the Key is always there...If you close your eyes
and listen
the magic is still there...Magic never dies unless we kill it.
